Applications

When should I apply for next season?
Dearborn Baseball will begin accepting applications in early January. The deadline is April 10.

What do I need to print and send in?
Print and send in 3 copies of the application. Also send in the waiver signed by two parents/guardians and a check made payable to Dearborn Baseball. You may include a stamped, self-addressed envelope if you would like confirmation that your application was received. Complete these steps for each child.

Does Dearborn Baseball accept applications post-marked on the deadline?
Yes. The application must be post-marked on or before the April 10 deadline. No applications will be accepted after that date. Applications must be sent through the U.S. Postal Service.

What should I do if I missed the deadline for this season?
All of our deadlines are strictly upheld. If you missed the deadline for this season, please wait and apply for next season. Applying early and including all necessary information is the best way to ensure a spot for your child in the league.

When will I receive confirmation that my child was accepted into the league?

If you include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with your application, then you will receive that envelope back as your confirmation. The envelope may be empty, have a small note or be marked. Receipt of the envelope itself is your confirmation.

If you do not include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with your application, you may not receive any confirmation from the league until mid-May. Checks are cashed in groups as we process applications so your check may not be cashed until May. If you send checks for multiple children, they may be cashed at different times. Coaches do not call their players until the end of April at the earliest.

What do I need to include when applying for next season?
Please see our Registration Information page for a detailed account of what needs to be included with your child's application.

Where can I get an application for next season?
Applications are usually available on our web site at the bottom of the Registration Information page starting in January and are at the front desk of Dearborn's Ford Community & Performing Arts Center beginning in February. If your child played last season an application form will be mailed to you in early February.

What is our refund policy?
No refunds will be issued after the teams are selected, except in compelling circumstances.

Can I request a team or coach on my application?
We always consider it, but are not bound by it.

If I sign my child up to play in Dearborn Baseball, will they play on a team with other kids from their school? For high school and middle school players, will they play on a team with kids from their school teams?
There is no guarantee that your child will play with children from their school or from their school baseball team; however, an effort is made to put kids in the same neighborhood or school on the same team.

Can non-Dearborn residents apply? How much does it cost?
Dearborn Baseball may accept non-Dearborn residents at no additional cost. However, Dearborn residents receive priority over non-residents. Applying early should take care of this problem but a spot is not guaranteed for non-residents.

If my child's birthday is after the deadline, can I sign them up for an older league?
Yes. We routinely allow children whose birthday is after the deadline to play in an older league. When at all possible, you should keep your child in their appropriate league based on age.

The league reserves the right to place your child in the division of our choice and the team of our choice as may be in the best interest of the league. We reserve the right to place players in an appropriate league for their age, no matter what preference was marked on the application, for any reason.

In the past, the application process required a birth certificate. Should I include a copy of my child's birth certificate with the application?
We have eliminated our birth certificate requirement but we reserve the right to request a copy of any child's birth certificate.

Schedules

When does the season start?
The season starts the first week of June. Consult the cover letter included with your application packet for an exact date. Cover letters are also available on our Registration Information page. Practices begin in May. You will be called by a coach by mid-May.

When will new schedules be up on the site?
As soon as they are available. Each year's schedules are usually not complete until late May. The previous year's schedules are left on the site for your reference. Schedules usually don't change much from year to year.

Where are the games played?
A list of fields used by the league is available on the Locations page. All fields are within Dearborn at local parks or schools. Only travel teams will play outside of Dearborn. Please consult your league schedule for specific game locations.

What do I do if it rains on a day when my child has a scheduled practice or game?
If you have any doubts about the status of a game or practice, then you should call the coach of your child's team. If you cannot reach the coach, you should show up at the designated place and time for the practice or game. Rainouts and make-up games are up to coaches and umpires.

What days do the teams play on?
Teams may play on any day, including Sunday. However, T-Ball generally plays on M/W, Coaches Pitch on T/TH, Mustang on M/W/Su, Bronco on M/W/F, and Colt on T/Th/Sun. Examine the schedules from last year, available on the Schedule page, if you have questions. Teams play twice a week.

Will my child play night games?
Night games may be scheduled in Bronco and Colt. There are no night games in softball or Mustang.

Will my child play doubleheaders?
Usually not.

Are directions to the fields available?
All games are played within the city of Dearborn, usually at local parks or schools. However, for those new to the area, maps of the sites are available on the Locations page.

What time are the games at?
Games in all leagues are usually played in the evening. Please consult your league schedule for specific times.

Leagues

If I sign my child up for Dearborn Baseball, is my child guaranteed a place in the league?
No. A late application may be returned. A particular division may be full. A particular team may fail to exist if there is no coach. Also, your child may be cut if they are involved with a travel team. All travel teams have try-outs and only the best players are selected.

If any of the above happens, then you receive a full refund.

What leagues can accommodate children that have never played organized baseball before?
If under 13, children who have never played organized baseball before should be able to acclimate to the appropriate league for their age group. However, boys and girls aged 13 and older may have trouble adapting to our more competitive, older leagues. The leagues for children aged 13 and up require greater skill and knowledge of the game than the leagues for younger children. Please make a realistic evaluation of your child's skill level before signing them up for our older leagues. Your child is not guaranteed a spot in the 19 and Under league. Only the best players will be selected in these older divisions.

How do I know what baseball or softball league my child should be in?
Boys (Age as of April 30), Girls (Age as of January 1)
T-Ball Ages 4-6
Coach Pitch Ages 7-8
10 & Under Ages 8-10
13 & Under Ages 11-13
16 & Under Ages 14-16
19 & Under Ages 17-19

Where do I find rules for my child's league?
Please consult our League Info section page for printable versions of each league's rules.

What kind of baseballs do the T-Ball and Coaches Pitch leagues use?
They use RIF baseballs, which are somewhat rubberized to reduce injury.

What leagues are travel leagues?
All of our 17 and older leagues, boys and girls, are travel leagues. They are more competitive and will require driving to games in other cities. These teams have cuts and no player is guaranteed a spot. We also offer travel teams for our younger players. Ask your league commissioner if you are interested in travel baseball.

What should I do if I have trouble viewing the website?
Please email the site administrator explaining the problem. This will benefit all site users by helping us detect and fix the issue.  Our site is compatible with Internet Explorer, Chrome and many other browsers.

When I try to print out a page from the web site, the background comes out blue.  How do I fix this?
There are a couple things you can do if the blue background is coming out on your printer.  First, whenever possible, use the "printer friendly" links at the bottom of the pages.  Almost every page has these links and that will solve the problem.  If for some reason you don't have that option, look at the printer settings on your internet browser.  You should be able to un-check the option to print "background colors and images" when you are looking at your print preview.  Different browsers have different ways to do this so feel free to email the site administrator if you need more assistance.
